XSIM: An X-Window Simulation Interface


XSIM is a graphical user interface designed for use by biomedical investigators doing computer simulation. The software runs in a windowing environment on engineering workstations and uses a ‘point and click’ approach. As the engine of the NSR simulation envionment, XSIM connects models, data and physiological databases.

The appearance of XSIM is not predefined but is determined at run time by a configuration file selected by the investigator. Thus, the interface can be tailored to the specific analysis task at hand, and a graphical display of the underlying model can be provided. XSIM features include:

XSIM Project Status

The last release of XSIM was version 3.21. XSIM is no longer being actively developed. The versions available for download were built several years ago and may not be as compatible with, or run as well under, current revisions of the operating systems.

NSR's JSim product, the Java-based successor to XSIM, is being actively developed, and is available for recent releases of the Windows, Macintosh and Intel-based Linux operating systems. JSim has much of the same functionality as XSIM, and now runs many classic XSIM models (mmid4, msid4 and gentex, for example). In addition, JSim has many nice features not available in XSIM, such as simple model-building and customization procedures, as well as contour and colormap plots. JSim does not yet have every feature that XSIM does, but missing XSIM-like features are presently being added.
